Sara Tatum, math teacher at Bladensburg High School, was one of three College of Education alumni teachers surprised with a $1,000 check during Teacher Appreciation Week. Recognized for her commitment to her students, Tatum was told she would be filming a promotional video for the school district.
"This was a huge surprise," Tatum said during an interview with CTV News. " It was really nice to be appreciated in this way."
An initiative that the college launched last year, Dean Kimberly Griffin explained the significance of the surprise visits: "Our teachers are our unsung heroes. So many days they show up, they work so hard, they pour so much into their classrooms and we wanted to take a moment to appreciate them in a whole new way."
